LINGIARDI NAME HYSTORY
• Umberto was one of the very few engineers in the Fascist Army so went to bonificate the swamps around Rome and in Puglia, after doing this he was shipped as commander to Greece where he was imprisoned by the Germans (Nazis) and shipped by train to Dachau where thousands of Jews died with the use of gas chambers, as soon as he saw the opportunity to escape he walked from where he escaped all the way to his home in Brescia, therefore walking 1,500 miles alone.
• When he arrived to his front door and knocked on it, his wife didn’t recognize him and thought he was a beggar to send away, he had to talk for few minutes before being recognized as the husband by his own wife, he had lost 40% of his body weight in the months of walk while he had to hide his passage everywhere.
• Ernesto Lingiardi was one of the brothers who built organs all over the north of Italy and since the trademark of the Lingiardi organs was the ‘human voice’ they could produce he never stopped toning the lead canes of his instruments by mouth even when it became clear that by putting in his mouth these canes all made with lead was the reason for what later was called ‘mouth cancer’. He built the only organ in the region of Emilia, while all the other instruments had been placed for a century only in the north regions, near Pavia.
• Gianfranco when young sustained his family by going with his bicycle to buy grain from farmers out of town even when it became very dangerous, he once had to cross a square where a Nazi who was drunk was shooting to anybody he could see, Gianfranco crossed the square in his understanding of how best and safest to do it.
• Gianfranco older when studying math had his brother Alfredo checking on him and whenever he showed indecision the brother would punch his elbow on the hard table used. Still after 70 years Gianfranco has a cist in his elbow produced by the fisting his brother gave to him and he is proud of it and of remembering why he has it.
• Alfredo was Gianfranco’s older brother and used to be the CEO of Alfa Romeo which is still today an important brand for cars, he had this position for almost 2 decades and when he died hundreds of people were at his funeral. His son Vittorio is my very close cousin who teaches Psychoanalysis at the University of Rome.
